Topic: NOURISHING YOUR SOUL
Text : Psalms 62:1,5
1:Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
2: My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
I discussed few salient points about the soul of man last Sunday, the focus here is to discuss how to nourish your soul. I defined soul as your being, let me go further to say it is your life, the need of every human soul is safety; both in this world, and in the world to come, the human life needs salvation.
The main point here is safety for your soul, how do I mean? Read what Jesus said in Matthew 10:28: And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Just as you nourish your body for healthy living so also you should nourish your soul for salvation.
Let me say this; a man’s soul feel every oppression that comes upon me, it means when a man is afflicted, his soul is afflicted, Apostle John clears the air on this when he was writing to Gaius in 3 John 1:2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. It is means the soul of a man can prosper just as it can be afflicted.
As you need food for your body to be sound in health, so also you need food for your soul to Prosper. The Psalmist knew how best to nourish one’s soul, every now and then you see him saying, ‘ my soul waits for the Lord ‘, he understood that it is only God that has food for the soul of men, it is only Him who knows the nutrients of the soul, he knew that God knows, and has the balance diet for his soul, he knew that, for his soul to get the best he must wait upon the Lord.
I love this scripture, from the Psalmist also, look at it here: Psalms 107:9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. The Psalmist knew he could get satisfaction in the presence of God, he knew the best restaurant for his soul, THE PRESENCE OF GOD, this is great, God gives satisfaction to my soul as I stay in His presence to worship, praise, pray, and study His word ( Bible ).
The Psalmist knew how to keep his soul fresh, healthy and prosperous, when things are getting out of hand, and his soul feels depressed, he knows what to do, he simply goes to God’s presence. So with this understanding just like Psalmist, I don’t know about you, my soul longs after God, my soul can’t grow lean as I long after Him because He will satisfy my soul with goodness.
Beloved, knowledge illuminates, this understanding is a blessing to any soul, secure safety and satisfaction for your soul in God’s presence, desire His presence, don’t play with quiet time, prayer time, church service time, bible study time, and you can be sure of satisfaction for your soul.
