Topic: HIGHER PRIZE
Text: Philippians 3:14,15.
14: I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.
15: So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also. AMPLIFIED.
Apostle Paul was a great scholar, not just in spiritual matters but also in secular affairs. He was referred to as a lawyer, well knowledgeable, grounded in law. In verses verse 4 to 6 of our passage he boasted of his achievements and status,
look at verse 5: I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. NLT.
If Apostle Paul is alive in our contemporary times he would be a great professor, vast in secular knowledge, a great achiever, but in his search for knowledge after his encounter with Jesus he discovered what worth living for, in verse 7 of our passage he said: I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.NLT.
After his discovery he considered it wise to labour for higher prize. I see Apostle Paul saying, ‘ my going to school is good, but there is something better I should labour to achieve ‘, getting good job is good, but there is something better, owning houses is good.
I see Paul saying, ‘ I have achieved a lot, but there is something higher, and if I miss that, I will be most miserable of all men.
Apostle Paul concluded like the wisest man (King Solomon): Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is Ecclesiastes 1:2.
The higher prize is the heavenly prize, it is the supreme prize, Paul was insinuating that his life would have been a waste if he had not discovered the path to obtaining the higher prize.
Read his statement in 1 Corinthians 15:19 If we who are [abiding] in Christ have hope only in this life and that is all, then we are of all people most miserable and to be pitied. Amplified. Everyone of us must aimed at the higher prize; reigning with Christ in heaven. Everything we’ve in this world will perish here.
The great Apostle died as a fulfilled soldier of Christ, how do I know? 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
I wish you do not miss the crown of righteousness, follow the path to obtaining the highest prize, PHD is good, but only has value in this world, it’s good own properties, it isn’t a sin, it’s great to drive good cars, but all ends in this world, it’s interesting to have good amount of money in your bank account, that’s okay, but it’s all for this world.
Work towards the supreme prize, give your life to Christ, abstain from sin, serve the Lord. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Help me Lord not to miss my crown of righteousness in Jesus name.
