Topic: LESSONS FROM HEZEKIAH’S ENCOUNTER
Text : Isaiah 38: 1-5

1: About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’”
2: When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,
3: “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.
4: Then this message came to Isaiah from the Lord:
5: “Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life. NLT.

Only a few people were aware of their date of death before they eventually died. King Hezekiah was among the few people. On rare occasions will God inform a man about his death, death usually comes suddenly to many people.

Let’s analyse Hezekiah’s encounter with God; Verse 1 of our text says, ‘ In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death..kjv ‘ what does this mean? You won’t know the meaning of this if you fail to take to cognisance the fact that he was a king, a first class king for that matter, his royalty is like the monarch of England, Queen Elizabeth. He was in the class of G7 of our contemporary days. This is to mean that he had access to the best medical care of his time.

Hezekiah would have contacted his fellow kings for medical care, he must have asked for the best doctors in their kingdoms, but all of them confirmed that the sickness was unto death.

Hezekiah still didn’t believe it was time for him to die, he kept on seeking the face of God, this means he didn’t believe the medical report about his health.

I see God giving him signs that he should prepare for his death, Hezekiah would have had revelations about his death, he rather prayed against those revelations.

God needed to let him understand that it was time for him to die so that he wouldn’t be caught unawares and unprepared. What a way to please a man. God gave Hezekiah too much attention.

I see God saying, ‘ Hezekiah needs to understand that it is time for him to die, I want him to tidy up his life, why is he still praying that I should heal him? It is important I send Isaiah to him. ‘

Then Prophet Isaiah, God’s mouth piece of his time, came to declare it verbally, audibly, in clear terms, in plain language, since he wouldn’t understand through signs and revelations, thus saith the Lord, ‘ set your affairs in order, for you are going to die ‘, NLT.

What an encounter with God! What a lifetime privilege! God took so much interest in him. Why was he this favoured? We will find out in part 2.

PRAYER.
* Lord help me to find favour in your sight in the name of Jesus.
