PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
22nd October, 2023.
Topic: SPEAK TO YOUR SOUL.
Text: Psalms 103: 1-5.
1: Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4: Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5: Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Many times, we go through challenges, we tend to forget the great things God has done in time past. Just like the Israelites in bible days; they easily forget the goodness of the Lord to them, they quickly pick issues with Moses and heap up blame on him.
God had issues with them and many of them couldn’t make it to their promised land.
The human body easily forgets pleasure in times of pains, present pains easily erode the feelings of past pleasure and then life appears like it has never been pleasant.
The Psalmist, David, knew how to handle his feelings in times of challenges.
David disciplined himself to always remember the goodness of God. Remember when he was to face Goliath and King Saul told him he wouldn’t be able to face Goliath, he replied by saying,
Your servant killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God. 1 Samuel 17:36.
David knew that the human beings feel less blessed especially when their mate seems to have gone far in terms of achievement and success, so, he considered it necessary to remind himself of the goodness of God. He said in our text, ‘ bless the Lord, oh my soul.. and forget not all his benefits ‘. He went further to analyse those benefits.
Sometimes we feel down about the happenings around us; the best way to handle that is to remind ourselves of the things the Lord has done in time past. It is important we speak to our soul regularly, ‘ bless the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits ‘.
If you study the book of Psalms you will discover that the Psalmist made emphasis on his soul, that’s the real man, your soul is your real self, your body is just a covering. Let me pause here for now. Go ahead and speak to your soul, ‘ bless the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits ‘, don’t feel down because of what you have not achieved, bless him for what he has done in your life. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Bless the Lord, oh my soul and forget not all his benefits.
