Topic: A MAN UNDER AUTHORITY
(THE CHEMISTRY OF WORDS AND LIFE…part 3)
Text: Matthew 8:9,10.
9: For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.
10: When Jesus heard him, He marveled and said to those who followed Him [who adhered steadfastly to Him, conforming to His example in living and, if need be, in dying also], I tell you truly, I have not found so much faith as this with anyone, even in Israel. Amplified.
If you have been following this series of teaching you will observed that I have been making analysis from two perspectives: Secular and Spiritual. This part 3 will follow the same order.
* SECULAR:
Anyone at the top today must have been under authority, a graduate was once a student, compelled to attend classes, write notes, do assignments etc. This means before anyone can be a graduate he must first of all be under authority of his lecturers.
A boss today was once answerable to someone. So, life is structured in a way that anyone who must lead must first of all be led by someone.
* SPIRITUAL.
This is crucial and critical but many people don’t pay attention to this, in fact, many made a mess of the provision God made for them. This is the reason many people struggle; they either don’t recognize the spiritual authority they are to submit to or failed to be submissive.
DELEGATED AUTHORITY.
God delegated authority to man. let me take you the Bible; Adam was given authority over all that God made. Genesis 1:26. God delegated authority to Noah, and everyone who didn’t submit to me was swept away by flood. After God swept the world with water, Noah retained the authority in Genesis 9:2. At one point he made Israelites to be under the authority Pharoah of Egypt, In Exodus chapter 3, he raised Moses as their deliverer who led them out of Egypt. Everyone who wouldn’t submit to Moses paid dearly for it. When Moses was gone it was Joshua, after Joshua were the judges, after the judges was Samuel and later the kings.
DELEGATED AUTHORITY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. Matthew 16:18,19.
18: Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
19: And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” NLT.
Jesus delegated authority to the church and the first pastor (overseer of the church) is Peter. Authority was given to Peter as the pastor of the church. A pastor is a spiritual father to the church members.
The only institution Jesus established and recognized on earth is the church. The keys of the kingdom of heaven is given to the church being headed by a pastor. Many people, Christians inclusive, are suffering today because they cannot serve God faithfully in the church under the authority of a pastor.
Many people lost confidence in church because of fake pastors, or probably because they are disappointed by the actions of their Pastors. You should know that anything that is authentic can be faked, if truly you want to serve God you will discover genuine pastors, ‘ by their fruits we shall know them ‘, and serve God faithfully under the leadership of a pastor.
God ordained men as shepherd over men, they have spiritual authority to move our lives forward. The church is the embassy of heaven on earth, as you serve faithfully in a church there is a spiritual cover over your life. God bless you. I will share more on this in part 4.
