Topic: SHIPWRECK OF FAITH
Text: 1 Timothy 1:19
19: Holding fast to faith (that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence) and having a good (clear) conscience. By rejecting and thrusting from them [their conscience], some individuals have made shipwreck of their faith.
Faith is the virtue that links us to God. It is on the platform of faith that our salvation is founded, it is our link to the spiritual as God is himself is a spirit. It forms the basis of our relationship with God.
The word ‘ shipwreck ‘ is defined as irretrievable loss. What did Apostle mean by shipwreck of faith; it is a colossal loss, a great loss, it is the worst thing that can happen to a man.
So, Paul considered it absolutely important to warn his son in the Lord, Timothy, hold fast to the faith. The loss of faith is the lost of your walk with God. Time will fail me to expatiate on this, let me do little explanation here: giving up on a life based on faith will amount to living outside the plan and the will of God for your life.
There are circumstances that will bring about shipwreck of faith but God expects us to hold on to the faith. Let’s take a clue from the Apostle himself.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8: Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. There is reward for only those who keep the faith.
Faith is the bedrock of Christianity, Paul was insinuating that despite the things he went through he kept the faith. Jesus speaking in Luke 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? You can see here that Jesus was bothered about the disappearance of faith.
Don’t allow circumstances around you bring about the shipwreck of your faith. We get going by faith, we stay strong by faith, we conquer every challenge by faith, when you loss the faith what will you use to conquer? God bless you.
