Topic: THINGS OF INFINITE VALUE .
Text: Philippians 3: 7-9.
7: I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
8: Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ
9: and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. NLT.
We all have dreams and aspirations, some things appear most important to us, and they are the reason we go through stress and pains.
There are glittering things that are capable of diverting our attention from the real things of life. I chose Apostle Paul as a role model because of he is versatile in knowledge, the fact that he was a lawyer with his knowledge of the word of God and revelation of mysteries about this world and heaven makes him a balance teacher and role model.
He achieved many things that were relevant in his days. His academic qualifications, his dual right of citizenship, a Jew and a Roman, he putted so much efforts to attain relevance in the secular world, but as he was drawing close God and discovered great mysteries about life and eternity he found out that all his achievements were of little relevance compared to the knowledge of Christ.
Paul discovered that if he gain everything without Christ he is nothing. The knowledge of Christ is then of uttermost importance.
Paul spoke explicitly in verse 8: Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ NLT.
Please take note of a phrase in the above text ‘ the infinite value of knowing Christ ‘, What does this mean? It means every other thing in this world has value, but a finite (limited) one, but knowing Christ has unlimited value, it has value in the world and in the world to come.
Everything we are and have ends in this world but the knowledge of Christ, the acceptance of his redemptive work has infinite value.
Let me close with this scripture; 1Timothy 4:8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
