Text: Ephesians 6:10,11.
10: In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
11. Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. Amplified.
Apostle Paul was to give a final word to the Christians at Ephesus after addressing some issues about their Christian life. A good teacher puts some important words at the conclusion of his or her teaching so that the students won’t forget if they forget others.
The conclusion of Apostle Paul’s letter to the christians at Ephesus is our text; be strong in the Lord, through your union with him. What does he mean? We receive strength when as we stay in union with God. Our relationship with him entitles us to empowerment.
We draw supernatural strength as we stay with him, the human strength has limitations, we are empowered to go beyond the natural when we receive his strength.
Why do Christians need to be strong? God is not just giving us power for giving sake, there is need for the power, it is not for luxury but necessity. Verse 11 tells us the purpose of the empowerment; look at it here; Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
Our enemy, the devil, has strategies and deceits and it takes divine empowerment to stand successfully against him. We can’t stand all his trips and strategies without adequate power, Paul knew christians will fail in the absence of power so, he urged us to draw supernatural strength.
Apostle Paul was talking from experience, he went through a lot and if not for divine empowerment he wouldn’t have finished well. To finish well as a Christian requires power and that power comes as we remain in union, fellowship, communion with God.
