Topic: THE FAITH OF THE CENTURION …part 2.
Text: Matthew 8:10.

10: When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

Jesus words should be given rapt attention, his words are directly from the mouth of God. His words are precise, they are not exaggerated. What Jesus said about the Centurion’s faith should propel us to exercise his kind of faith.

Why will Jesus say, ‘ I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel ‘? Israelites are God’s people, they can be liken to Christians in our days. It is like saying, ‘ I have not found such faith among Christians ‘. Let me speak more about THE CENTURION.

The Centurion understood that there are classes of power:
* Economic power (money).
* Political Power (government).
* Military power (force).
* Spiritual power (divine).

The Centurion had military power, but he knew that spiritual power is superior, before going to war they consult deities or spiritual men to get spiritual support. How do I know this? In Numbers chapter 22 King Balak had both military and political power yet he sent for Prophet Balaam who had spiritual power. Every wise soldier knows that going to war without spiritual support most times result to defeat.

The Centurion knew that Jesus had spiritual power, and that he can heal his servant who was in terrible pains.

The Centurion also understood the chemistry of words, in the military they obey the last order, military orders are always strict and must be obeyed to the latter. The words of the commander can spare a life and kill another. Look what he said in verse 9 of Matthew 8: For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. He has witnessed total obedience to orders given and severe punishments given to disobedient soldiers, he knew what command, spoken words, can do.

He said to himself if a military order has so much effect how much more spiritual order? He must have witnessed where a single order from a commander finished a whole community. So, he said to himself, ‘ Jesus words will be of greater effect ‘. He knew that distance is not a barrier to the words of Jesus. He knew how far Jesus’ words could travel and wrought wonders, and so he said in verse 8, ‘… speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. You faith in the word of God will wrought wonders in your life.

PRAYER.
* Exercise faith this day, Jesus’ words still wrought wonders, trust him for anything and it shall be delivered.
