Topic: TO THE BRETHREN AT COLOSSE.
Text: 1: 8-10.
8: He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you.
9: So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
10: Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
The love for others was obvious in the lives of the Christians at Colosse, it was more felt than said, they needed not to tell people they love them, everyone could see it.
One key attribute of the kingdom of God is love, a believer’s faith is first of all built on his or her love for God and men. Let me put it this way; love is the product we sell in christendom.
You must understand that we are products of love and we are meant to show love so that others can partake of this precious gift of God. Love is so important that the bible says ‘ God is love ‘ in 1John 4:8.
God’s love produce Jesus, we are saved by the demonstration of God’s love towards us and God expects us to show that love in our daily living. So, Paul wrote to the Christians at Colosse acknowledging the testimony of their love for others given by the Holy Spirit, this means the Holy Spirit propels us to love others and not to hate.
Everyone possessed by the Holy Spirit lives in love and not hatred.
The testimony Paul heard about them made him to pray for them always asking God to give them complete knowledge of His will and spiritual understanding.
In verse 10, Paul stressed that they will live in honour and please God and they will produce every kind of good fruit. This is the end result of our Christian life; bearing good fruit. Our commitment to God is suppose to bring us to the point of bearing good fruit that will attract others to the Lord. God bless you.
