Text : Matthew 16:17-18.

17: Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven.
18: And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros—a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra—a huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it]. Amplified.

Some people wonder why God allows evil occurrences, the truth is that powers of hell are allowed to operate in this world, they are not bound yet. Just as you are living the demons are also allowed to live, but God has given you power over them.

Look at this scripture Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. This is reason why troubles are in the world, the devil is allowed to move around, he moves around with great wrath because he knows his time is short.

The good news is that we’ve got power over him, Jesus assured us of victory in out text, powers of hell shall not overcome us. There is provision for our victory, but it is not activated automatically, we get it by praying.

Someone said, ‘ even if I don’t pray, I am victorious ‘, that’s erroneous, the person that gave us assurance of victory admonished us to pray always. Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.

God is not going to fight the devil for us, he has given us power to deal with him, look at this scripture James 4:7 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. Amplified
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

This power is exercised through prayer. This picture will help you understand what I am sharing here; when a man with a rifle fights a man with a machete if he use the rifle well, the one with machete won’t near him let alone hurt him, but if he keeps his rifle down the one with machete will get him down. Our rifle is prayer, whenever we are praying we are shooting.

We’ve got power to rebuke the devil and stop his activities around our lives, families and in our nation.

Join us today as we wait upon the Lord for Nigeria. We will be interceding online today, live on Facebook 11.30pm-12.30am. Nigeria was almost at the verge of war last week but for God’s mercy, our prayer focus is that Nigeria shall not know war anymore.

* We rebuke the devil in our lives, families and this nation in Jesus name.
