Topic: COMMITTED TO SERVE…Part 7
Text: Joshua 24:15KJV
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. It also means a pledge or undertaking towards a cause. Service to God without any doubt requires commitment. God loves commitment because he himself is committed.
In part six, we learnt about the blessings of commitment which are a-hundredfold and everlasting life. Today we want to discuss about the dangers of not being committed to serve.
There are great blessings when one is committed in God’s service and likewise there are dangers when one fails to be committed to God’s assignment.
From the story of Jesus in Matthew 25: 14-30
“14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
A child of God that is not committed is liken to an unprofitable servant. He or she is unprofitable because he/she is wasting away the treasures and investments of heavens upon his/her life for the expansion of God’s kingdom, such is unprofitable because he/she is not working with God’s time to fulfill the kingdom mandate. Now It is very terrible to be an unprofitable servant because such may suffer:
* Loss: The unprofitable servant lost the talent given to him by his master and also lost his place with the master, so likewise an uncommitted servant is mostly likely to lose his God given talent to another or even to the devil and will also lose his place in the sight of God.
* Rejection: Just as the unprofitable servant was rejected by the Lord of the house, God may also reject an uncommitted servant who takes his service for granted.
* Eternal Damnation: The unprofitable servant was cast into outer darkness, a total place of damnation for failing to commit himself to use the talent given to him to serve in his master’s business.
Beloved, it pays to be committed in service and receive great blessings than to be lazy in service and suffer the consequences. Therefore be ye committed to serve. God bless you
