PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
23rd August 2020
Topic: COMMITTED TO SERVE…Part 3
Text: Joshua 24:15KJV

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. It also means a pledge or undertaking towards a cause. Service to God without any doubt requires commitment. God loves commitment because he himself is committed.

In part two, we said the mind of Jesus Christ was a mind of commitment to his Father’s business. It therefore means not only God was committed to his work, Jesus Christ also like his Father was committed to God’s work while he was on the earth.

Today, we want to discuss how Jesus passed the baton of commitment to his disciples at the time of his departure from the earth.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gave his disciples a great task, saying

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

It is an enormous task that cannot be accomplished without commitment. To go into the world, teaching all nations and baptizing them is a task embedded with a great deal of commitment. Reading through the Bible, the Apostles were committed to God’s service, they were committed to the Kingdom business as follows:

  • In Acts 2, they tarried in the upper room in fasting and prayer until they were endued with power from on high.
  • In Acts 6:1-4, as the church grew, the Apostles gave themselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.
  • In Acts 8:1-4, Saul who later became Paul persecuted the church, so much that the people scattered everywhere, yet they were still committed to the preaching of the gospel. See the account in Acts 8:4

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.”

The Apostles were all so committed such that they were ready to give up their lives for the service of God, many of them died in active service without a compromise to what they believed. Paul the missionary was jailed several times for the sake of God’s service, Oh great was the faith of our fathers, great was the commitment of the early church.

Dearly beloved, God was committed to his work, Jesus Christ was committed to his Father’s work, the Apostles were committed to the Kingdom assignment, so what about you? Think on these things… God bless you

PRAYER:
* Father, help me to be committed to your service come rain or sun in Jesus Name.
