3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Today we will be rounding off on this topic “THE POOR”. Another category of the poor are those that Jesus referred to as “the poor in spirit” in his sermon on the mount as stated in our scriptural text above “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”.

The poor in spirit are those who humbly seek God, those who do not think high of themselves, those who see themselves as mortal men with limitations looking up to the unlimited God to help them. Such, Jesus said theirs is the kingdom of heaven, it means such are those who will receive the salvation of God.

Let’s take a look at a bible character as a case study and that is the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8:26-40. The Eunuch was a man of great authority but was humbly seeking God, he knew he needed God and when God sent Philip to him on his journey, he was humble enough to allow Philip explain the scriptures unto him, showing him the light and salvation of God, and indeed he found the kingdom of God. So if you must find God’s kingdom, you have got to be poor in the spirit, you have got to be humble in the spirit to receive God’s salvation.

Dearly beloved, are you poor in the spirit like the Ethiopian Eunuch? or proud in the Spirit like the Pharisee? Remember, blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. God bless you

* Father, help me to be poor in spirit that I may receive your kingdom in Jesus Name.
