Topic: IN THE LIGHT OF HIS WORD.
Text: Mark 12:24
24: And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Interpretation of the scriptures (the Bible) plays major role in our relationship with God. Our walk with God should be based on proper understanding of the scriptures. You can’t relate with the person you don’t understand, wise people study properly before they choose their friends. Many relationships have broken up because of misunderstanding.
Let me come out this way: Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Relationship is based on agreement either in spelt out terms or by implied terminologies. In the Bible, God spelt out his terms for relating with men.
Jesus in our passage said unto them, Do ye not therefore err (sin), because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? ‘ This is what he meant; you do sin because of your lack of understanding of the scriptures and the power of God. Why did Jesus includes the power of God? He should have just stopped at the scriptures? He said that because the power of God is embedded in the scriptures, and since they don’t know the scriptures they can’t see the power of God manifest in their lives.
When Scriptures are misinterpreted errors, sin, delusion capable of leading to one’s damnation characterize one’s life. You see many people go into sin with the understanding that God will always forgive them even for sins committing intentionally, someone said, ‘ masturbation is not a sin ‘, ‘ once saved is forever saved ‘, when the bible says, ‘ Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). Philippians 2:12. Amplified version
Jesus was speaking to his disciples in Matthew 28: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Apostle Paul wrote Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Wrongly dividing the word of truth will lead to errors and damnation.
Give time to study God’s word, inviting the Holy Spirit to teach you himself using different recognized versions. Check who you listen to, that’s essential because it is capable of damaging your understanding of the Bible, remember Jesus said Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Take a watch over your life, this is absolutely important. God bless you.
