Topic: THE BLESSING OF THE LORD..part 2.
Text : Proverbs 10:22.
22: The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
In part 1, I did explain that the blessing of the Lord is the definite gift that makes either an individual or a group of people prosperous. I also said that when a life is going though so much stress persistently it is most likely that his life is void of this definite gift.
There is another a character of the bible whose life is a picture of what I am sharing here, let’s read about him in 1 Chronicles 4:9,10 Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, Because I bore him in pain. Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request.
Jabez couldn’t feel this definite gift in his life, the pronouncement of his mother was playing major role in his life, he wasn’t getting what he wanted. There was some much struggle, working hard to make a little, that’s the picture of a life that lacks this definite gift. Let’s analyse the name his mother called him, ‘ sorrow maker ‘, that is the name he carried all his life, let’s assume he went to school, every morning when the register is being marked he answers for his name, sorrow maker, his friends did call him ‘ sorrow maker ‘, his neighbors did call him ‘ sorrow maker ‘, what a name?
The pronouncement of sorrow into his life took effect because there is power in the tongue of men. Words are like arrows they are not seen, but they can strike anyone, imagine a man being stricken with the arrow of sorrow from the day of his birth. So Jabez grew up to discover sorrow in his life, but he needed a change of life and so he cried to God.
Let’s analyse Jabez prayer; Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request. You will notice that his first prayer point is ‘ Oh, that you would bless me …’ he was simply asking for the definite gift. When someone says ‘ God bless you ‘, it carry so much weight especially if the person is anointed.
For Jabez to get his life changed cried to God for this definite gift, look at the last sentence of verse 10 ‘…And God granted his request. If you feel struggle around your life and family, all you need is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and added no sorrow to it. Pray like Jabez and God will answer. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Lord, bless me indeed and enlarge my coast in Jesus name.
