25th December.
Text: Luke 2: 8-12.

8: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9: And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10: And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12: And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

The word Christmas can be divided into 2 Christ and Mas, the word mas is fully spelt mass and this is to mean and heart of worship and celebration, by Christmas we mean celebration held for Christ, the word Christ means the Savior, the combination of the two words connotes celebration of the Savior.

Our text shows clearly that Angels celebrated the birth of Jesus and we have to follow suit, some people are against the celebration of Christmas they obviously do not have the right knowledge, celebrating Christmas which connotes celebrating the birth of Jesus was initiated by the angels, in our text an angel of the lord appeared to the Shepherd and said, ‘ fear not for I bring unto you great tidings of great joy that is to come to all the people ‘, there is joy in heaven that Christ was born for the liberation of mankind.

Celebrating is not out of place if the purpose is achieved in our lives, but celebrating without getting his purpose achieved is complete waste of time and resources, the human race could have been cut off from eternity if not for the birth of Jesus Christ, it has brought hope to the human race and so it calls for celebration.

The angel called it good tidings of great joy that is to come to all the people, so his birth brought joy to all the people, all the human race everyone who accepts him as lord and savior have access to this great joy.

Most importantly, Matthew 1:21 tells ultimate purpose And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Deliverance from sin is the purpose of his birth, he also spoke in the above passage that he will deliver his people from their sins, and maybe are not delivered, you are not benefiting from the purpose of his birth.

In summary, his birth does 2 things.
* Brings great joy to all the people who receives him.
* Brings deliverance from sin.
I charge you to take the full package his birth offers. Merry Christmas.

* I receive the great joy that comes through the birth of Jesus.
* I receive deliverance from sin.

Amos 6, John 3.
