Topic: GRACE FOR SERVICE….Part 5
Text: 2nd Corinthians 12:9 KJV
9 He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
In part four we discussed that there are some specific services we offer to God which we also call personal ministry or area of calling such as mission ministry, prison & hospital ministry, pastoral ministry, apostolic ministry, teaching ministry e.t.c
Today we want to begin to discuss in detail the topic above which is the “Grace for Service“. Certainly there is grace for service that God releases upon his children to enable them to serve. First what is grace? The definition of grace is diverse and we cannot totally captured it here. Grace is defined as the unmerited favor of God toward man. Grace is unmerited divine assistance or virtue given to humans from God for regeneration, santification e.t.c Grace is the love of God shown to the unlovely; the peace of God given to the restless. For the purpose of our topic of discussion, we want to define grace as passion, strength and empowerment.
Let’s break it down in this simple form, we have no strength of our own, and so whatever we do in God’s service is because God has given us the strength or the grace to do it. So if you have passion to teach it means you have grace to teach, if you have passion to sing and worship God, it means you have been given the grace or empowered by God to do so. Now you will realise that as a child of God serving in God’s vineyard, you have passion to do certain things and will always love to them over and over again while you have no person for some other things and may not like to repeat them. For example, you may have passion to pray, and when you pray, you are alive, on fire and flow easily but when it comes to praising and worshipping God you realise the passion is not as much as the other one, you may even discover that you struggle to lead others in songs of praise to God than in prayer. So we can simply say that you have more grace in one (prayer) than the other (singing). It doesn’t therefore mean that singing praises to God is not important to you as a child of God, nor does it mean that grace is not available for you in that area, it could mean that you lack the grace to sing and praise because:
* You limit God in that area in your life
* You belittle yourself, saying I can’t do it
* You have not been faithful in that very one that you have grace to do (Luke 16:10).
* You have not asked God for grace to do it
* You have not taken time to develop yourself to do it.
Beloved, Paul said in Philippians 4:13 that
I can all things through Christ which strengthen me,
the grace of God is available to serve in every available capacity but if you are not faithful in the little he has given you, he may not give another according to Luke 16:10
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.
God bless you.
PRAYER:
* Father, give me grace to serve more than ever before in Jesus Name.
