PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
18th October
Topic: DEALING WITH REGRET.
Text : Luke 15:17,18.

17: “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger!
18: I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee. NLT.

Imperfect nature of man makes him falls into errors, and over time as he ponders over his mistakes there is always a feeling of sadness within him. Regret over past issues and steps have made many people take wrong steps in life, those who commit suicide are not happy with themselves and so they decided to do the worst.

The man in our passage today did the right thing, took one step that corrected his past and renew his future, you must always remember that everyone’s life is divided into HIS PAST, HIS PRESENT and HIS FUTURE.

Your past is outdated, some people don’t even remember it anymore, though your mind tries to replay it sometimes, it can only take effect on your life if your present decision is wrong.

Let me give you an illustration you can relate with; imagine someone standing behind you asking you to come and another standing before you telling you to come, no matter how persuasive anyone of them sounds, you will decide either you’re going backwards or frontwards. You have walked pass the past and now you only need to face the future; facing the future should be your assignment now.

The guy in our passage was trying to walk out of misery, he knew misery was not his portion but his actions had led him to misery, and then he came to his senses, let me qualify it by saying RIGHT SENSES.

He wouldn’t allow his pride, arrogance and shame to lead him to further error, he knew the right thing to do now is to pull down his ego, put on humility, and simply approached his father for forgiveness and acceptance.

This guy did something that is unique, look at it in verse 18:

‘….and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee’.

He realized that he has sinned against heaven and now his heaven is shut. Please note that he didn’t just say, ‘ father, I have sinned against you ‘, he said, ‘ father, first of all, I have sinned against heaven ‘, this is what the bible meant by coming to his senses. Many people thought their misfortune is because they offended someone not knowing that it is because they sinned against heaven.

If Heaven is shut against you no amount of support from men can turn your life around. So, this guy came back to God and his father, you must come back to God, and he will rewrite your story and give you a bright future, your closeness to God is what will lead you into a glorious future. The guy came back to his senses, you also need to come to your sense, this is the right sense; I need God to succeed in life . God bless you.
