Topic: MIND THAT DISTRACTION…Part 2
Text: Psalms 119:37KJV
37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way
Distraction is simply defined as something that turns your attention away from something you want to concentrate on. In part one we were discussing that distraction is a thief because it steals time.
Today we want to see from the scriptures how some men were distracted, what distracted them and how the time of their lives were stolen by distraction.
Our first example was King David. This great king has ever recorded drastic progress in his life because he was focus and God was with him, when he was a youth tending his father’s sheep he encountered wild animals like bears and with his hands he destroyed the bears, great was his achievements because through his hands the Lord delivered Israel from the Philistines as David killed Goliath on the battle field (1 Samuel 17), he was even anointed a king by God over Israel as a youth (1 Samuel 16). But on a particular day as recorded in 2 Samuel 11:1-4, King David was distracted when he saw an uncovered female object (Uriah’s wife) as he was walking on the roof of his palace that evening. That distraction caused the following events in the life of David:
1, David committed adultery with Uriah’s wife
2, David plotted the death of Uriah and he was killed eventually
3, God cursed David for his sins and said sword will not depart from his family and that he will be disgraced publicly
4, Amnon, One of David’s sons lust after and raped his half sister Tamar (A daughter of David)
5, Absalom, one of David’s sons killed Amnon, his half brother in revenge for raping Tamar (Absalom’s sister)
6, Absalom later moved against his father to overthrown David.
7, Absalom disgraced his father publicly by having affair with his father’s concubines in the public in his father’s palace
8, Absalom died while he pursed after his father, David in battle.
These series of events happened from 2 Samuel 11-18, which were over a period of time. A period of time stolen from the life of David, his family and his kingdom, a period of loss and retrogression simply because he was distracted by lust over another man’s wife.
Beloved, mind that distraction, it’s a thief of time and mainly because the lost time and opportunities may never be regained except by the mercies of God. Think on these thing…, God bless you
PRAYER:
* Father, give me grace to overcome every distraction that comes my way in life in Jesus Name.
