PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
Topic: FOLLOWING THE LORD.
Text: Mark 8:34.
34: Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. NLT
Following the Lord is the duty of every believer; when I say believer I mean someone who has given his or her life to Jesus. Of course there are conditions for following the Lord, just as you have conditions for taking up a job.
Jesus called his disciples aside and gave them these conditions, this means it is not enough to say, ‘ I am a believer ‘, ‘ I am a Christian ‘, ‘ I am born again ‘. Lack of this understanding is the reason many Christians misbehave. They think all is done as they make profession for their salvation, but Christ wouldn’t encourage his disciples to stop at just making confession of their salvation.
The conditions are stated in our text; I just want to emphasis one of them here, ‘ You must turn from your selfish ways ‘.
This is key because as you make confessions with your mouth it is your spirit that experience a new birth, you do not change the way you look, it doesn’t affect the state of your body, in other words the body is not born again.
The devil understands that your body is not born again and can easily be tempted, when Jesus was referring to the self in the text he meant the desires coming from your body. The desires of your body; the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
The self is referred to as your desires, what you want that are against the will of God, and if you must follow Christ you must lay aside your selfish ways. Selfish way is best described this way; the things that are gainful to you but painful to others. You must stay away from them, not putting others into consideration is selfishness and that you must desist from if you must follow Christ. God bless you .
* I receive grace to always put my body under subjection in Jesus name.
