PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
5th September
Topic: THE WORLD OF SIN…Part 2
Text: 1st John 2:15-17KJV

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

In part one we discussed that a life of sin is a life living in a world of sin. Sin itself is like a world with it’s inhabitants or let’s say it’s captives because living in sin is bondage according to Romans 6:14 saying

for sin shall not have dominion over you….

Another attribute or feature of the world of sin is lust or ungodly pleasure, in other word if it is a sin then it is has an element of lust or ungodly pleasure, and so we can say the world of sin is the world of lusts and ungodly pleasures.
Lust is defined as a psychological force producing intense wanting or longing for an object, or circumstance fulfilling the emotion. Lust can take any form such as the lust for sexuality, love, money or power. It can take such mundane forms as the lust for food as distinct from the need for food.
The following are the element of lusts or ungodly pleasures in the world of sin
* LUST OF THE EYES: A life living in the world of sin is usually full with this element of lust called the lust of the eyes. It is an ungodly desire of the eyes for worldly pleasures. This element is a major tool in the hand of the devil against many lives, I mean very many are captives of sin because of the lust of the eyes. King David, a great king killed Uriah one his mighty men, lost two of his sons and almost lost his own life and his entire kingdom because of the consequences of his lust for another man’s wife, likewise many today have fallen utterly and lost everything because of the lust of their eyes and lack of discipline. Job knew this clearly when he proclaimed in Job 31:1 saying

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman (NIV).

* LUST OF THE FLESH: This is another potent element of lust in the world of sin. Lust of the flesh like the lust of the eyes are ungodly desires pleasurable to the body of men. It could be in form of food, satisfaction, enjoyment, money, and sexual pleasures. The strong connection between these two lusts is that when it’s pleasing to the eyes, the flesh want to taste, feel, have and experience it. Samson, a Nazarite unto God with a great anointing and purpose to deliver Isreal from the Philistines ended his life in shame because of the lust of the flesh for women (Judges 13-16), likewise many there be today who are living under this bondage of lust of the flesh.
* PRIDE OF LIFE: We can’t discuss about lust of the eyes and lust of the flesh without talking about the pride of life. Most times when lust is in place pride often sets in. When David lust after Uriah’s wife and committed adultery with her, the pride of David being a King, the pride of him not wanting disgrace, the pride of him being in power and to sustain it without questioning from his subjects made him to send Uriah to war front where the battle was fierce without needed backup and eventually have him killed. The pride to sustain power has made many to become oppressors waisting the lives of innocent souls.
Beloved, our scriptural text above admonishes that we should not love the world neither the things that are in the world but rather do the will of God. This is a sure way never to live in the world of sin.
PRAYER:
* Father, deliver from lust and pride of this world Jesus Name.
