Topic: ARISE AND BUILD
Text: Nehemiah 4:6
6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work
God is in the business of building; building lives, building homes, building for himself a kingdom and especially a church. No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 that …..
upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail.
The important questions to ask are; What kind of church does he want to build? How does he want to build it? Answers to these questions will be our focus today.
Jesus seek to build and present to his father, a church without blemish or wrinkles, a church that is absolutely pure and holy. This he stated in clear terms in Ephesians 5:27 saying
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
So Jesus seeks to build a church without sin, a church that sets standard of holiness to the world, a church that is as pure as light. But how?
Building the church is a partnership affair, God has a part and his people have their part. This is clear when the Psalmist said in Psalms 127:1 saying
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: …
It means as the people build, then God too is building or let’s break it down, that God builds through his people. From our scriptural text above, the city of God, Jerusalem was in great danger, the walls were broken down, of course it was a city of God and God would not come down to rebuild it, but he gave strength, power, wisdom, provision and protection to a man Nehemiah who caught the vision to rebuild the wall (that is partnership between God and man).
So beloved, like Nehemiah and his people, we need to arise and build the right church, raise the right congregation, a congregation without sin but wth purity. We need to stand and teach the undiluted word of God on holiness in the church, building a godly church with distinct lifestyles of the saints and not mixed multitudes who are not different from the world both in their inward and outward appearances. This is call to you and I, God is ready to build but we must submit ourselves for him to build through us. God bless you
