Prevailing Voice Daily 12th August

12th August
Topic: POSSIBILITIES….part 5
Text: 1 Samuel 30: 6-8

6: And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
7: And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8: And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

If you have been following this teaching you will notice I have been sharing how your state of mind affects your prayer. 1 Samuel 30 gives account of how Ziklag was burnt down, and The families of David and those of his men were taken captive. There are great lessons to learn from David here, they are steps that led to total recovery.
I ponder about something each time I read this passage, look at it in verse 2:

They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone.

How were they inhumane, wicked, callous to burn down a whole city and at the same time kind enough not to kill anyone? At their wicked state of mind God prevented them from killing his own people, that tells me there is always a limit to the enemies’ brutality.
My concern here is how David recovered all; verse 6 says,

‘ and David was greatly distressed…’

first for his children and wives, secondly, the people with him spoke of stoning him to death, please note the word ‘ spoke ‘, not ‘ thinking ‘ it means they were already discussing how to kill him. ‘…but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God ‘, that is the beginning of total recovery.
Encouragement takes it root in the mind, you see, I am going back to the mind again. In verse 4:

they wept until they could weep no more. NLT.

Weeping, sighing, mourning, complaining, blaming someone will not in anyway bring restoration. He knew he can’t go to the Lord with that state of mind, it might be tantamount to ‘ doubt in his mind ‘. He sought God with an encouraged mind and total recovery was their portion.
You must always ensure whatever happens does not destabilize your mind, you will always need your mind to fix your life, of course it is God that fix our lives, but he does that through our minds, when he tries to fix your life and your mind is not set, you remain at the same level.
Your business can grow with a set mind, your life can improve with a set mind, your income can increase with a set mind, I don’t care how much you have lost in business and life, I am persuaded that as your mind is fixed your life will be fixed. A discouraged mind is a discouraged life, a shattered mind is a shattered life.
Tell yourself, ‘ I am rising again, I am taking my position in business, I am rising out of poverty, misery and losses ‘. God is set to do great things in your life, prepare your mind towards them, stop discouraging yourself by ruminating on your past ugly experiences.
You need your mind to pray and take necessary steps to your breakthrough and success. God bless you.
* I recover from the damages, losses and pains of ugly experiences of my life in Jesus name.
Jeremiah 25, Hebrews 12.
