PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
25th July
Topic: THE VIRGINS…Part 2
Text: Matthew 25:1-13KJV

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Our scriptural text above is a parable of Jesus about the kingdom of heaven. A parable of five wise virgins and five foolish virgins. The fact that they were virgins is clearly a figurative expression that they were pure and without blemish, it means they had preserved themselves and had not defiled their bodies in readiness for the coming of the bridegroom. Secondly they all waited patiently for the bridegroom, they were expectant and waited, even though they slept off, yet they waited for the bridegroom. However, despite that they were virgins, despite that they waited patiently for the bridegroom, Jesus classified five of them as wise and the rest five as foolish virgins, why?
Because the wise virgins had extra oil for their lamps which means:
* They were prepared for his coming: The wise virgins were prepared but the foolish virgins were preparing. There is a difference between being prepared and preparing. PREPARED means ready, earlier finished, earlier concluded and it is definate, while PREPARING means getting reading, about to finish, in the process of concluding and it is indefinate. Indefinate in the sense that one can be preparing for a thing forever without time limit especially an event that may happen suddenly. The wise virgins had everything ready to meet their husband but the foolish virgins were not fully ready but getting ready cause they must have said to themselves “why burden ourselves with an extra oil? When we can always rush to the market to buy when we have need of it” but they forgot their husband said he would come like a thief in the night 1Thessalonians 5:2.
* They did not take his grace for granted: The wise virgins understood clearly the scripture that says ‘he that endured to the end, the same shall be saved”. They knew where they started from, they knew how far they had gone in preserving themselves blameless and spotless as virgins, they knew it was grace that chose them among many others and it was grace that had preserved them in the world of sin and so they did not despise the grace through carelessness or non challant attitude like the foolish virgins and when their husband came they were saved.
Beloved, the parable of the ten virgins and the lessons above is a clear picture of the lives of many Christian’s today, some are running the race in wisdom and some in foolishness. Choose to be a wise virgins so that you can be saved when Jesus comes like a thief in the night. God bless you
PRAYER:
* Father, help me to be a wise Christian and be prepared for your coming in Jesus Name
