Topic:: ANTIDOTE TO DISCOURAGEMENT.
Text : Joshua 1:6,7,9.
6: Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7: Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.
9: Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Antidote is defined as a remedy that stops or control the effects of a poison. Discouragement is simply the lost of courage, you feel it within, it is something on the outside poisoning your inside. You see something or hear something that makes you lose courage on your inside.
My primary focus here is to discuss reasons for discouragement, and who can be discouraged. The reasons are simple:
1, This world can’t give you all you want, it isn’t a permanent place to reside.
2, Devil is permitted to operate with restrictions as in the case of Job. Job 1.
3, Discouragement comes when people cross their limits: trying to bite more than they can chew.
4, When a man thinks he can get things done by his own wisdom or strength.
5, When a man fails to acknowledge God in his endeavors.
6, When a man opens door to the enemy through sin.
7, When a man has wrong people around his life.
Who can be discouraged?
Anyone can be discouraged, no one is above discouragement no matter his or her achievements, you only need to keep a watch on your life.
Devil has not given up on anyone, he fights every man until he drops his last breathe, your duty is to keep a watch over your life. In our passage God was warning Joshua against discouragement, Moses allowed the people to discourage and provoke him to sin against God. As meek as Moses was the actions of Israelites discouraged him.
