Topic: OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE
Text: Matthew 22:1-14KJV
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind hiañm hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
Serving God is an opportunity not a birth right, it is clear in our text for today. Verse 14 says “For many are called but few are chosen” the chosen few are the privilege ones.
From our text is a story of a king who organised a service and invited people (the elite, the working class, the wealthy, the business men and women, the socialites, the literate e.t.c), but these people he invited refused to come. Some of them saw it as a waste of time because they went about their businesses and merchandise. As it was in that parable of Jesus so it is today, a lot sees going to church or the gathering of God’s children in service as a share waste of time, many of such people prefer to go about their business or work even on Sunday. Many would rather choose the comfort of their home or the satisfaction of their work and business over the privilege or call to serve God. Beloved, think on this thing…
Now because the service must hold, the king sent forth invitation to everyone, the poor, the illerate, the sick, the passers by e.t.c and a number of them came and were dressed but when the king came to the service himself, it was surprising for him to still find a man not dressed, not ready, not prepared at the service. A man who took the grace, privilege and opportunity to be transformed into a new man for granted, a man who despised the great opportunity to be in the presence of God. Eventually he was cast out into darkness and barnished from the service
Beloved, a call or invitation to God’s service is not a birth right, it’s a grace, it’s a privilege and it’s an opportunity. Do not despise it and do not take it for granted. Don’t sit at home today when you are meant to be in church for service. God bless you
