Topic: THE GOD OF ELIJAH…Part 4
Text: 1Kings 18:17-39

17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have aforsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.
19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.

We bless God for inspiring us to write this daily devotional guide, PREVAILING VOICE DAILY and for the revelation of his words. Today we want to round off this topic about the God of Elijah. Our focus today is the place of the fire.
What we meant by the place of the fire is where God sent down fire or answer Elijah by fire. A detail look into the bible showed that the three times Elijah called down fire were on the mountains. The first time was in 1 Kings 18 according to our text above, Elijah called the Israelites and the Prophets of Baal to Mount Carmel, where he called God to answer his prayer by fire before the Israelites. The second and third time according to 2Kings 1:8-12 was on the top of a hill(Mountain), where he called down to consume two captains and their army of fifties. Elijah was a mountain top dweller, even when he prayed for the return of rain after three and half years of famine in Israel, he was on a mountain. So the place of the fire is on the mountain.
Now let’s break down the word mountain and its meaning . Mountains were physical location where people met with God those days e.g Israelites often go yearly to Shiloh (mountain) to offer sacrifice to God, Moses many times took Israel to Mount Sinai to receive God’s instruction, even Jesus just like Elijah went to the mountain many times to pray (Mount of Transfiguration). Typically mountain was a place of getting closer to God, so in our days, an atmosphere that gets you closer to God is a mountain experience e.g atmosphere of prayer, fasting, study and meditation of God’s word, quiet time, having alone with God e.t.c
Dearly beloved, if you desire answer by fire from God like the days of Elijah then you must be a mountain top dweller i.e. a carrier of God’s presence who tarry in God’s presence constantly in prayer, fasting and the word of God. God bless you.
