Prevailing Voice Daily 26th December

26th December
Text: Matthew 1:18-21.

18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19: Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20: But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Names are important to human beings and God. Everything God made is given a specific name. Adam was permitted by God to name all that God made. Look at Genesis 2:20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
Jacob got his long awaited breakthrough when he had an encounter with the angel of the Lord in Genesis 2:27,28 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Beloved name has role to play in your life. If you are a student of the Bible you will understand that names are given based on events and circumstances. I understand this vividly before having children, I allow God to give me names for my children. I see people just pick names from the Bible for their children without knowing the circumstances that warrant those names.
Our saviour was not just given names, the names serve purpose for his life and mission on Earth. I just want to explain the major one here. The world knows him as JESUS, the reason he is called Jesus is a point of emphasis here.
Verse 21 states this in clear terms; And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Saving his people from their sins is the reason he is called Jesus and if the purpose is not fulfilled in your life, you will be wasting your time calling Jesus.
Everyone who receives him receives forgiveness of sins, living a sin free life is the reason why he is called Jesus. If you celebrate Christmas without this purpose being fulfilled in your life, you’re wasting time and resources.
Salvation from sin is his primary assignment. Have you been cleaned by the cleansing power in his blood? Compliment of the season.
* I receive grace to live a sinless life.
