Topic: JOB’S SACRIFICE…Part 2
Text: Job 1:1-22KJV
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
In part 1 of this topic, we discussed two things that Job was concerned about the spiritual state of his children before God and that he presented them to God regularly.
Today, we want to draw out something very important missing in Job’s sacrice. Please note this is basically for the purpose of learning and not to fault our subject character in this study. Now, what was missing in Job’s sacrifice over his children was training them to know God, fear Him and walk in his ways like Abraham did for his household according to Genesis 18:19. Let me break it down, when the storms of life blew against Job’s household, Job was the only one fortified to stand, his entire household, I mean his children and even his wife could not stand the storm, they were all blown away leaving Job alone.
The point am making is this, if Job was to be the one that died, who would be making the sacrifice for his children, certainly nobody, it means if Job died, his regularly sacrifice to make his children right before God would cease and so what will become of his children spiritual state before God.
Genesis 18:19 said this concerning Abraham “19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lordmay bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” so it shows Abraham thought and trained his household to take after him in walking in the ways of God.
Beloved, the lesson here is that though it is good to pray for your children and present them always to God, it is importabt to go a step further training them to know and serve God as you do, so that when you are weak or not available at that moment they can stand for themselves, much more than that they can also be there to encourage or defend you in times of challenges, like Psalms 127:5 puts it that “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” So do much more than Job’s customary sacrifices, but command your children like Abraham to serve God. God bless you
PRAYER:
* Father, help my children to know you and serve you more than I do in Jesus Name.
