Topic: KEEP ME AWAY…Part2
Text: John 17:12-15KJV
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
The account in Matthew 4 was on how Jesus was tempted of the devil with the same three vices we discussed in part 1 (see reference here) which are lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and pride of life.
Lets take a look at it:
* Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread (lust of the flesh)
- Matthew 4:5-6, Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone (pride of life).

Matthew 4:8-9 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me (lust of the eye). In all of these, Jesus did not fall and did not yield to the temptation of the devil, He was preserved and kept from falling by the WORD OF GOD.
Let me quickly point out something here, Jesus had just fasted 40 days and night, and so would have been expected that devil (temptation) would not come near him but alas devil came. The point is that as a child of God don’t feel relax when you are celebrating victory.
From our text above, It was the prayer of Jesus that God should keep us away from evil of this world (John 17:15), and in verse 14 He said he has given us the word of God (which was what kept him from falling).
Beloved, Do you have God’s word in you? How are you fairing in the word of God? How much of God’s word do you know? Think on this thing. God bless you
