Topic: THE WONDERS OF FASTING
Text: Isaiah 58:6-8
6: Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
This daily devotional is making tremendous impact, statistic shows we have readers and followers from every continent of the world, it is interesting to see readers from Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, China to mention a few, US and Nigeria contesting to have the highest number of readers and followers. It couldn’t have been our making but of God.
Many people don’t really know the purpose of fasting, let’s search the scriptures together:
The first point of emphasis here is that God recognizes fasting, when people fast genuinely God feels it, God accepts it, he receives it as sacrifice.
In verse 6 of Isaiah 58, God said , ‘ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? It means God chose a fast, it also means that he didn’t chose any kind of fast, this scripture is telling us the kind of fast he chose.
See verse 6 here again; [Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke? This means don’t enslave your workers, release the oppressed, loose the bonds of wickedness, make sure no one is oppressed around you.
If you’ve always have food to eat, when you fast you feel the pains of the poor, the plight of the needy, verse 7 talked about taking care of the needy, feeding the hungry.
It is also a time for God break the bonds of wickedness upon your life, if you’re oppressed by the devil it is time for God break the yoke of oppression upon your life, fasting and prayer is one weapon the enemies can’t stand.
See what God is set to do when you observed a genuine fast, verse 8; Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward. Wow! Amazing, I like this scripture, take note of 2 sentences here; 1, your light shall break forth as the morning. 2, the glory of the Lord shall be your reward, what a promise? This is coupled with the fact that fasting once in a week is good for your health, medically proven.
See beloved, if there is anything that I have done to help my life, it is Fasting and Prayer, can I shock you? Anyone who observes this kind of fast the Bible is talking about can’t be limited, I am talking from experience.
When you fast in righteousness and pray expect a lift in your life. Let me close with this; you can fast and pray anywhere, it is not necessary you go to any mountain. God bless you.

* It is another day to wait upon the Lord in fasting and prayer, ask God to break the bonds of wickedness around your life and family.
* Father let my light break forth as the morning in the name of Jesus.
