Text: Hebrews 12:29KJV

29 For our God is a consuming fire.

In part one, we established that God is rich in mercy but also a consuming fire meaning he could be provoked to anger.
The basic thing that provokes God to anger is sin, so every act of sin e.g disobedience, telling lies, immorality, fraud, pride, despising God e.t.c in the life of anyone, people or nation provokes God to anger. The anger of God is out there upon every sinner pronouncing Judgement and destruction (fire).
However, God withholds his anger upon sinners and wickedness of the world but for a short time. Why?

  1. The Blood: God gave the world Jesus Christ to save us from sin, and Jesus had to sacrifice his life, offering his blood as a price to destroy sin in the life of anyone who believes and accepts him as Lord and Saviour. So the blood of Jesus withholds God anger, giving men time (a very short time) to repent from their sins
  2.  The Love: God so love the world, which moved him to offer his only begotten Son as a sacrifice for the debt of sin, this love still moves him to withhold his anger for a while giving men grace to repent from sins and wickedness and embrace God’s love and mercy.

Beloved, when this short time of grace expires, the anger of God like fire will be poured out upon every sinner having rejected God’s love and salvation. The only way to escape God’s anger is to be free from sin, and salvation from sin is through acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. So every one without Christ is guilty of sin and worthy of God’s judgment by fire (Rev 20:15), so repent and be saved. God bless you
* Father, save me from sin and help me to embrace your true salvation in Jesus Christ today in Jesus Name.
