Topic: HIS ANGER WITHHELD
Text: Hebrews 12:29KJV
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
The Almighty is a great God, He is unsearchable and his mercies are inexhaustible, a God without a beginning and certainly no ending, He is God over all things, living or non living, whether in heaven, on earth or underneath the earth.
God is full of compassion (Lamentation 3:22), rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4) but also a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). God could be provoked to anger and so could get angry. One of the greatest sermon ever preached was titled “SINNER IN THE HAND OF AN ANGRY GOD”
by Jonathan Edward in July 1741.
A look at the scriptures shows that God could be angry. In Genesis 6, God was angry with the world, see what 5-7 says
“5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”
Sin made him destroyed what he has made , so because God was grieved in his heart, he destroyed the world in the days of Noah with water.
In numbers 14, Israel provoked God to anger and this was what God said to Moses in verse 11-12 ”
11 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me?….
12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them….”, God can be angry with anyone, any nation or even the entire world if provoked to anger.
Beloved, it is a fearful thing to experience the anger of God, and I pray you will not experience it in Jesus Name. Wise people seek to please him always. God bless you.
