Text: Romans !2:11KJV
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.
Apart from serving God without slothfulness, another way we should avoid serving God is in the flesh. Our scriptural text says …fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, we should serve God in the spirit and not in the flesh (that is carnally).
One of the reason why we must serve God in the spirit is because God is a spirit. Just as John 4:24 says God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in the spirit and in the truth, likewise serving God must be done in the spirit because God is a spirit. It is also important to know that your service to God is a worship to him because serving God means you reference him and referencing him means you worship him.
Another reason we must serve God in the spirit and not carnally is because carnality is enmity with God, and a carnal man or a carnal service cannot please God (Romans 8:6-8). You can imagine what it feels like as an employee working hard at doing your job and every effort you put in the job does not please your boss or employer because there is something you are not doing right, how much more when God says to people who healed the sick and cast out devils in His name that they should depart from Him, the workers of iniquity (Matthew 7:21-23). I pray for your that God will not reject you and will not reject your service in Jesus Name.
Finally every work and service shall be rewarded, In Revelation 22:12 Jesus said behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give everyman as his work shall be, as I conclude remember do not be slothful in God’s business, be fervent in the spirit; serving the Lord. God bless you
