8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
9 It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
In part 1, we established that the grace of God for salvation is available to all men and that salvation is a free gift from God.
Today we want to consider the function of faith in salvation and the connection between grace and faith bringing salvation to men.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “The substance of things hope for, evidence of things not seen”. It means faith believes that something is, even when you have not seen it. The language of faith is not seeing is believing but you believe first to see it manifesting. So God’s grace of salvation that is available to all men, can only come to manifestation when you have faith or you believe in him.
Out text above state it in clear terms that we are saved by GRACE through FAITH, it means without faith the grace will remain ineffective in any one’s life. Grace is available in Jesus Christ and so we must believe on him to be saved. John 1:12 as many as received to them he gave power to become the sons of God even to as many as believed in his name. John 3:16 says …that whosoever believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Dearly beloved, God’s grace for salvation is available to all men, but many have not connected to it because they lack faith. It does not matter what you past have been like, or how terrible your sins may be, there is grace for you to be saved only if you can do the following:
- Recognize the grace of God available for your salvation.
- Repent of your sins and turn away from them.
- Confess your sins to God.
- Believe in the Lord Jesus and accept him as your Lord and Saviour.
