Topic: HOLINESS BECOMETH THY HOUSE
Text : Psalms 93: 5
5: Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.
By the phrase ‘ thy testimonies ‘ the Psalmist meant his words, that is God’s word, so he said your words are sure, unshaken, firm, settled, undoubted. Then he went further to say, ‘ holiness becometh thy house ‘, this means that God dwells in holiness.
Holiness becomes God’s dwelling place, it means anything done outside holiness cannot attract God’s presence and blessings, let me give you examples you can relate with; someone stealing money from office to give donation to church is infuriating God. A pastor telling lies to raise funds for church is an abomination unto God, telling your husband lies to get his permission to do something in church is absolutely unacceptable by God.
‘ Holiness becometh thy house ‘ God can’t inhabit in a place that is not holy, using all manners of crook to build God a cathedral is a complete waste of time, the first thing God watches for his holiness.
Some people think population or size of a congregation determines God’s presence, no sir/ma, a big congregation might lack his presence while a small gathering that does not compromise holiness enjoys his presence, the Psalmist took deep thought after a good time of walk with God, and so, he came to a conclusion that God watches out for holiness, he then summarized it in a sentence: Holiness becometh thy house. Habakkuk 1:13 sheds light on this; Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…’ he can’t stand the sight of sin, wickedness, evil, atrocites, etc. Every worship outside holiness is a waste of time, a church that encourages sin, immoralities, impurities is wasting precious time of her members.
Appearing before God with grudges, malice, anger, bitterness and hatred for your fellow human being is unacceptable. Holiness should be the watchword of every Christian, everyone who seeks him must endeavor to live Holy. God bless you.
