Topic: HIS DWELLING PLACE 4
Text: 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
Today we want to consider yet another dwelling place of God on earth and that is in man. God dwells in the heart of man and thus made his place of abode in man, not only does God dwells in the heart of man, he further made the body of man his temple as stated in 1 Corinthian 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
God is big, so big beyond human comprehension, Isaiah 66:1 gave a picture of how big God is such that he made the heaven his throne and the whole earth his footstool. Yet in His mystery God dwells in a small being, His creature and the work of His hand called man, no wonder Psalms 8:4 says “What is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou visited him….” So God is mindul of man and made him his place of abode.
However, as much as God is mindful of man, he does not dwell in everyman, he only make his dwelling place in a man that desires Him, and obeys Him. The following conditions are important before God can dwell in any man:
* He must abide in God: John 15:4-5 says man must abide (dwell) in God before God can abide (dwell) in such a man. Except you dwell first in God, he cannot dwell in you.
* He must open his heart: Jesus said in Revelation 3:20 that behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with me. So that man must open up his heart and accept Jesus and his Lord and Saviour before his heart can become God’s house.
* He must be holy: Psalms 15:1-5 & Psalms 24:3-6 speak of who shall ascend the holy hills of God or stand in his holy place, it is that man with a clean heart and a pure heart who has not sworn deceitfully nor lifted his soul unto vanity. God is absolutely pure with no variableness and so must his dwellings be.
As I conclude, 1 Corinthians 3:17 says God will destroy anyone who defiles His temple, so we must desist from defiling our heart and our body which are God’s temple with sins. God bless you.
* Take your place in my heart Lord.
