PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
17th March
Topic: THE GREAT CITY
Text: Jonah 4:1-10 KJV
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Nineveh was a great city, even God testified of the same in Jonah 4:2 ” Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.”, but as great as Nineveh was, it was about to be completely wiped out or utterly destroyed by God himself, because of one thing, and that is their wickedness is unbearable to God. Nineveh was great, there sins were great, God could no longer condole their wickedness and sent warning unto the land, but one good thing about Nineveh was that she has a king who feared God, yielded God’s warning and moved the whole nation towards repentance from their sins and from the wrath of God.
Dearly beloved, our lands and nations are great, the wickedness and sins in our nations are also great; ritual killings, ethnic war and religious crises, corruption, rape, prostitution, homosexualism, lesbianism, adultery, fornication, oppression of the fellow humans e.t.c. Beloved, God demands that we repent as a nation and he will forgive our sins and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). But like Nineveh, do we have leaders who fear God? Do we have a people willing to repent and return to God?
Dearly beloved, the critical case of our great nations and lands require that we pray as an individual, as a family, as a church for the mercies of God and His salvation upon our nations. God bless you.
PRAYER:
* Father, we plead for your mercies and salvation upon our nations in Jesus Name
