29th January
Topic: WRONG PARTNERSHIP
Text : Jonah 1:1:1-17
5: Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
7: And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
10: Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
15: So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
The story in our passage is a popular one, today’s message is focused on choosing your partners, the mariners lost so much because they were on a journey with Jonah, he was the least person to have been suspected to be the cause of the tempest
The mariners threw off valuables into the sea just to get their balance, how they would have wished they didn’t board the ship, they went through hard time and probably would have lost their lives for the sake of Jonah, and Jonah knew he was the cause; look at this: And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. V.12
If you have men like Jonah in your life you will need to struggle with many things, if you do business with them you can be sure of loss. Some people’s problems came as a result of who they partner with, who they do business with, a lot are going through tempest because they journey with some wrong people in their lives.
DISCOVERING JONAH
* It took time for the mariners to discover Jonah, but thank God they did, it is important you discover the Jonah in your life. Jonah told them he was fleeing from God’s presence, he wouldn’t want God either to further speak to him or give him instructions, he is not interested in the will of God, he is not careful about pleasing God, he was trying to do without God, if there are people like Jonah in your life separate from them and help them, I will be sharing on how to help them next week.
How could anyone imagine fleeing from God’s presence, it was like God was a burden to him, he lost desire to please God, it is dangerous to be in partnership with men like Jonah.
*Jonah was moving out of God’s purpose for his life, a man who left his place of purpose to partner with you will cause tempest for you, discover him and avoid him.
