Topic: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS
Text : 1 Corinthians 10:12,13
12:Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Not everyone who professes Christ have right standing with him. There are a lot of deficient believers whose lives rather brings blaspheme to the name of Christ instead of honour. Compromise has taken over everywhere, and you wonder if those called Christians ever attended a church, to modify things sometimes you hear ‘ a born again Christian ‘, there is actually nothing like that: once you are born again, you become a Christian, you are not a Christian by birth, the word ‘ Christian ‘ simply means someone like Christ in character.
The lives being lived by many who profess Christianity is far below Christ’s standard, what brought about the difference is compromise at the face of temptation . Christian life is not a life of compromise, temptations will come our way but we are enable to overcome them, anyone living in compromise will not reign with Christ.
Some ministers while trying to define grace have taught their followers that; there is always room for forgiveness, such teachings have made many lost their passion for holiness and righteousness, it is important you understand that God will not lower his standard for anyone, he has called us to holiness and righteousness, he has also made provision for our victory over every temptation, according to our passage in the midst of every temptation he made room for escape.
I will do detail teaching on this topic as the Holy Spirit inspire me, but primarily here I will just define temptation, I just want to give 3 definitions of temptation here:
1, Something that seduces or has quality to seduce.
2, The desire to have or do something that you know you should avoid.
3, It is an enticement to sin.
I will be working with these definitions, and we will relate them to our lives so that we can actually take heed to our lives lest we fall. It is important you understand that just as you want your child to pass his or her exams in school, so also God wants you and I to overcome every temptation, the way you give support and everything needed to ensure your child or children do well in their exams, God also gives support and enablement to overcome temptations.
Just as you feel bad when your child fails an exam, so also God feels bad when you fall into temptation, he is not please with anyone who compromises his or her faith. I will continue next Friday from here.
