Text: Hebrews 13:4a
4a- Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled.
From our scriptural text above, there are two key words about marriage. First it is honorable and secondly the bed undefiled. Let’s consider the second point
The word undefiled means unsoiled, uncorrupted, which means the marriage bed must be kept in purity. An honourable marriage is one that has the bed undefiled, in other words if the marriage bed is defiled then it loses its honour before all (men, devil and especially God). Bed defilement or marriage defilement is basically about sex in marriage. God ordained sex only for marriage (between the married couples only) and nothing outside it. Anything outside this such as fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism e.t.c. defiles the marriage.
I will like to point out clearly to unmarried youths, singles and engaged partners intending to get married who engage in sex that they are defiling themselves (1 Corinthians 3:16-17) and could receive destruction from God. I know in the world of today, pre-marital sex is no longer seen as a big deal, but I like you to remember that God does not change even though the world is changing and God’s words remain the same that God will destroy anyone who defiles God’s temple (your body-1 Corinthian 3:17), and also that fornicators and adulterers will have their part in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). So stop pre marital sex, it is a sin against God.
For the married couples, God ordained sex between you and your spouse only, anything that makes you share this intimacy with a third party is defilement of your marriage and marriage bed and it is a sin against your spouse and against God. Even if done in the secret and your partner is unaware, don’t forget God sees it all. Therefore, desist from adultery, desist from extra marital affairs, don’t defile your marriage, your marital vows and your marriage bed, it is disrespectful to your spouse and to God and also it is a gateway for the devil into your home. Think on these things and repent. God bless you.
