Topic: CHANGING THE MIND OF GOD
Text: Numbers 14:1-35 KJV
11 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13 And Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
20 And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word.
The Almighty God is a supreme being and He is omnipotent, He does what He pleases and no one can question Him. He is a faithful God, without injustice, truth and upright are His ways. Everything He does is perfect and there is no imperfection in Him neither is there anything too difficult for Him to do. One great thing about God is that whatever He says he will do, that is what he will do meaning there is variableness in Him (James 1:17).
However have found a few instances in the scriptures where men moved God to change His mind through intercession.
From our scriptural text, God was set to destroy the Israelites with pestilence and promised Moses that He (God) will raise a greater nation through him (Moses). Moses would not agree with God’s decision, he interceded for Israel and gave God justifiable reasons (read verse 13-19) why God should change his mind on the utter destruction of the Israelites and God did according to the plead of Moses. See verse 20 “And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word.”
Another man who moved God to change his mind through the prayer of Intercession was Abraham. In Genesis 18: 17-33, God was set to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and he told Abraham His mind, as soon as Abraham heard, he went into prayer, interceding for Sodom and Gomorrah that God should not destroy the land for the sake of the righteous in the land. Abraham pleaded with God that if there were ten righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah, God should not destroy it and God agreed with him. Though God could not find ten righteous people in that land and so he destroyed it but Lot, his wife and two daughters were spared because they found favour with God. Had Abraham not interceded, It were possible God would have destroyed the entire Sodom and Gomorrah but God change His mind and spare Lot and his household.
Dearly beloved, God is always in search for men, not just ordinary men but intercessors who will move Him to change His mind from destroying a person, a family, a people or even a nation according to Ezekiel 22:30. Are you available? Will you answer this call? God bless you.
PRAYER:
* Father, give me passion to intercede for others in Jesus Name.
* Father, let your mercy prevail over your judgement upon our lives, our homes and our nations in Jesus Name.
