Topic: THE PURPOSE OF WEALTH
Text : Matthew 19:16-23
20: The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21: Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Sometime you wonder why God put wealth in the hands of some people, the population of poor people outnumbered the rich, while some spend money like pieces of paper a lot of people are in desperate need of it. The question why God allow such arises from within? From the scriptures let’s find answer to this.
You will agree with me that whoever cannot spend wisely does not deserve to be rich, understanding God’s purpose of giving wealth to people qualifies you for wealth. I was desperately in need of a job several years ago, I wrote and past test for employment in a bank, but it was like something was standing on my way to getting the job, until one day I met a Christian brother who works with an oil company, we got talking, in course of our conversations he told me ‘ Yemi, I am very careful of what I do with my earnings, because it is not mine but Jesus’ and I will give account of how I spent it ‘.
Believe me honestly, that was all I needed to know, that very day I went for the last interview for the job, few days later I was employed. I want to share with you 3 major reasons God gives wealth to people.
1, BEING BLESSED: the first point for that man to be blessed, It is a blessing to a man who possesses it, look at Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
2, BEING A BLESSING: a man his given more than what he needs to be a blessing to others, the poor will not seize from the land, there are poor people every where even in the wealthiest nation, the poor cries to God for survive; to feed, to cloth, to have shelter, so God places the rich among the poor to serve as answers to their prayers, how do I know ?
Proverbs 28:27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
3, BEING A BUILDER; Jesus is committed to building God’s kingdom in the hearts of men, money is needed in doing the work, Angels will not deliver the money, God blesses some individuals to carry the financial burden of spreading the gospel, the gospel of the kingdom must reach the ends of the earth before Christ will come, money is involved, everyone who has this purpose set in his mind receives more from God. Look at this ;
Proverbs 3:9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.
God will not bless you when knows if you have more money you start chasing young ladies while you put your wife somewhere, he won’t give you more money to go clubbing and doing ungodly things .
PRAYER.
* Bless me and make me a blessing
* I will spend to build your kingdom in the hearts of men.
