15th November
Topic: THE HOLY SPIRIT ( part 1 )
Text : John 14:16-31
16: And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever
17: The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.
18: I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you. Amp.
Knowing that we are made in the likeness of God helps us to believe man has attributes of God, since there is a spirit in everyman obviously, God has a Spirit, in fact the bible refers to him as a Spirit,John 4:24. Jesus coming in the form of a man was referred to as God in the flesh of man, he was called Emmanuel meaning God with us.
At the expiration of his assignment on earth, he knew it will be dangerous to leave his people without fortifying them, in v.16 of our passage he said ‘ I will ask the father, and he will give you another comforter, Amplified version of the bible used the word ‘ strengthener ‘.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, our human flesh can achieve nothing without this strengthener, even Jesus couldn’t do without him, everyone who did great exploit in bible days and our contemporary time was enabled by the Holy Spirit.
God speaking to Zerubbabel in Zachariah 4:6, he was very clear about this: ‘…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. It is through and by the Holy Spirit we have great strength.
My physical look, or financial strength, or educational qualifications, as good as they may be, do not determine what I can do, it is by the Holy Spirit. The world has experienced great move of God through men who are possessed by the Spirit of God.
Let me limit this teaching to the work of the Holy Spirit, I will continue from here next week, from our passage he is called:

• The Comforter: life is filled with ups and down, challenges of life sometimes can make anyone commit suicide, Jesus knew this quite right, and that is the reason, he prayed the father to send the comforter. If you are possessed by this Spirit, you will be comfortable on every side, when challenges come you will overcome.

• The Strengthener: he gives strength for extra ordinary performance in life, you can’t be limited in life when the Holy Spirit takes over your life.

• He is a Teacher: you can’t lack knowledge because he is all knowing, there will be revelation, inspiration, he guides us into all truth.

• He gives us power to live Holy: when you are possessed by this Spirit, you will lose your passion for sin. God bless you.

* As we wait upon God today, let’s ask for the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
