Prevailing Voice Daily 3rd November

3rd November
Text : Acts 9: 36-41
36: Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
37: And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
38: And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39: Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40: But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
The bible called Dorcas a disciple, her lifestyle proves she is one. The people around her could not believe that she was dead, ‘ she was too good to die now ‘ they thought, they couldn’t afford to lose her, she was precious to them. ‘ This couldn’t be natural death, the enemy must have done this ‘ they said. She must have been a blessing to people around her, her life was through definition of the gospel.
Verse 39 of our passage amazed me, ‘ …all the widows stood …weeping and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made….’ There were visible evidences that she was a blessing, she must have lived a selfless life. what struck me in verse 39 is that ALL THE WIDOWS, with no one exempted, came weeping, that means she must have touched them all.
The action of the people also amazed me in verse 38; they sent for Apostle Peter, their general overseer, their anointed apostle to come quickly, why? They were sure beyond reasonable doubt that it is an untimely death. I am sure they don’t send for Peter when some other people die, but they felt Dorcas was too precious to die like that. I am sure God respected their faith, he felt the pains in their heart to lose a treasure, so he restored Dorcas.
Any other person would have just died like that, but not Tabitha ( Dorcas ). Imagine the great joy that would come upon the people to see Dorcas live again, that is because she was a blessing, being a blessing to people brings invaluable treasures into your life, caring about others is winning their heart, going out of your way to be a blessing by meeting people’s needs can never be in vain. Can I shook you? God is not pleased to bless anyone that withholds surplus to himself. The rich is created to bless the poor, not using the poor to make money.
If you must get more of God’s blessings, you must be ready to be a blessing, don’t shut your hears to the cry of the poor. God bless you.
* Lord, I am ready to be a blessing.
* Use me to touch lives .
