Topic: PLENTY IN SCARCITY ( part 2 )
Text : 1 Kings 17:16
16: And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
My emphasis in part 1 is the causes of famine, in this part 2, I want to major on ‘ staying connected in time of scarcity to a source that cannot fail ‘, the world economy might not get better, but you can stay connected to an unfailing source.
In recent times, there are have been contentions about tithing as to bringing blessings or not, I will throw light on that through the scriptures.
STAYING CONNECTED
* PROPHET’S REWARD: Jesus said in Matthew 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward.. Jesus made us understand that there is something called the ‘ prophet’s reward ‘ that is what the Zarephath widow received when she obeyed Prophet Elijah in 1 kings 17: 10-16; she never lack through out the period of famine according to the words of God through Elijah. If Jesus didn’t say anything like this, some people will say it is only applicable in old testament.
I personally observed that when people do me a favour or when I visit people, and they receive me well, if there is anything they need to know, the Holy Spirit reveals it to me during or shortly after the visit. It is important you know that God’s prophets carry grace to bless people, when you bless a man of God, the anointing upon that man brings breakthrough your way, but you must ensure he is a man of God.
- GIVING TO GOD’S WORK: In mark 12:42-44, Jesus acknowledged the widow who gave her best, he didn’t stop her but rather made us know her sacrifice was accepted. What she gave is more than her tithe. Jesus’ preaching about giving is beyond tithing, look at it in Luke 6:38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back NLT.
Please take note of the last sentence ‘ the amount you give will determine the amount you get back ‘, these are the words of Jesus himself, so who tells you that you giving does not determines your blessing?
- SOWING TO REAP: 2 Corinthians 9:6,7 ;But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Apostle Paul also writing to the Corinthians church told them their reaping is based on how they sow, so it erroneous to say ‘ your giving does not determine your blessing ‘, note this sentence ‘ for God loves a cheerful giver ‘.
Let no one cut you off from blessing, it is scriptural to give; give God’s men, give for the propagation of the gospel , give to the poor. You have problem with the way pastors use church fund ? Leave them to God who called them. God bless you.
PRAYER.
* Lord make me a cheerful giver.
