Topic: THE NATION’S CRY
Text: Esther 4:16 KJV
16-Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
God is always attentive to the cry of a nation, He does not despise the cry of intercession by individuals on behalf of their nation or by a group of people for their nation and most especially He answers speedily when a whole nation cry unto Him in intercession.
From our scriptural text above, King Ahasuerus ruled over 127 provinces of which Jews were among. A power official of this great king, out of hatred compelled the King to pass a decree to wipeout the entire Jews in his kingdom. When Esther, the King’s wife (who was also a Jew) heard, she sent this message to her people “go gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” So the entire Jews in Shushan fasted and interceded for their nation and God delivered them from destruction.
In Jonah 3, the King of Nineveh, proclaimed a fast in the entire land to seek God’s face for mercy upon their nation. God wanted to destroy Nineveh for their sins and wickedness, they heard the warnings of God from Jonah, they repented and cried unto God as a nation for mercy and God delivered them.
Beloved, you and I are witnesses of the kind of things going on in our nations, the sins and wickedness in our lands far outweigh the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, there are corruption at every sector of the economy, oppression of the masses by top minority, immorality is on the increase by the day, homosexual marriage is gaining legalisation all over, ritual killings, religious crises, terrorism e.t.c We need to cry as individual, as a church and even as a nation for our lands. We need not give up interceding for our nation, let’s emulate Abraham, Daniel, Nehemiah, the Jews in Shushan and the people of Nineveh. God hears, listens and answers the cry of a nation (2 Chronicles 7:14). God bless you.
PRAYER:
* Father, help us as a individual, a church and as a nation to intercede for our land
* Father, by your mercy may we not end in your destruction like Sodom and Gomorrah in Jesus Name.
* Father, as you showed your mercy to Nineveh, show us your mercy in Jesus Name.
