PREVAILING VOICE DAILY
Topic: THE BATTLE WITHIN ( part 3 )
Text : Galatians 5: 15-26
16, But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).
17, For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do. (Amplified)
The recent comments from those who read PREVAILING VOICE DAILY prove that God is touching lives through this platform. For 3 Fridays now we’ve been discussing this topic, it is important we give time to understand it, it accounts for gross misconducts among believers. Many who profess to be Christians do not get to conquer their passion for sin as it battles their desire to serve God.
From v.17 we learnt that the desires of the flesh are oppose to the spirit vice versa, so it is always between the flesh and spirit; ‘ for these are antagonistic to each other ‘, so it’s either the flesh wins or the spirit. My emphasis to today will be how to constantly conquer the flesh, the answer is not far fetch, look at it in v.16; walk and live in the Holy Spirit, then you certainly not gratify the desires (cravings) of the flesh.
Understand that you are made up of spirit, soul, and body, your spirit is arrested by the Holy Spirit and that is the reason you gave your life to Christ, 1 Corinthians 12:3, the Holy Spirit remains with you from the day you made that decision, but will not force you to do the will of God, each time you fall into sin, you feel bad, that is godly sorrow, it is the work of the Holy Spirit in you. As you continually yield yourself to the Holy Spirit your craving for sin will die, that is what Apostle Paul means when he said ‘ walk and live in the Holy Spirit and you will not gravity the desires of the flesh
The Holy Spirit does not compel anyone, but rather empowers anyone who will yield himself or herself to God, so, as you yield yourself to the Spirit of God, in devotion, prayer, and studying of the bible, the Holy Spirit will be active in you, and when you do that regularly, the Holy Spirit will captivate your spirit, not your body, your freewill will still be there, thoughts of sin might still come, but your spirit will be empowered to say NO to every temptation.
You will definitely come to a point where you can do without those sins that easily beset you: your thirst for alcoholic drinks will cease, addictions to drugs will disappear, your craving for a woman or lady that is not your wife will leave you, uncontrollable anger will go, then you will be able to say like Paul ‘ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1. God bless you.
* Lord break the yoke of sin in life.
* Take away my cravings for sin.
