Topic: THE BATTLE WITHIN ( part 2 )
Text : Roman 7:1-25
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
This is the continuation of last Friday’s message. Paul like every nominal Christian, was having a struggle within him; the desire to do the will of God and doing the will, in verse 22 of our passage he said, ‘ for I delight in the law of God after the inward man ( his spirit ) ‘ in verse 23 he said, ‘ but I see another law in my members ( his body ) warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the of sin which is present in my members ( body ).
The battle is always between the body ( flesh ) and the Spirit, sinful desires reside in the flesh while the spirit desires to please God, it is a state of carnality and spirituality. Note that as long as you live your body is a point of attack when the devil wants to tempt you, you body that has been used to sin will still want to manifest its passion.
Verse 24, Apostle declared his wretchedness, and in verse 25 his victory through Christ. There is something we must take note in verse 25: ‘..…. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. When you live in the flesh ( carnality ) you live in sin. When you give to your flesh all it wants, you keep falling into sin, when you want to satisfy your appetite for alcohol, strange women, money, you will fall into sin time and again.
It is true that you have given your life to Christ, but you still manifest your ungodly passion, to be free; as you trust God to help you, deny yourself, deny your body of the sinful acts it desires, your eyes will always want to look, deny yourself of looking at everything, keep your eyes from anything that will stimulate sin in your body, disconnect from friends who keep making you to fall into sin.
Look at this : Roman 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. Apostle was instructing the Christians in Rome to yield members, body, to righteousness. Give time to studying God’s word, quote it to your spirit, soul and body, don’t give attention to the dictates of your flesh.
Let me stop here for now, next week I will give attention to living in the spirit.

* Lord help me to be able to put my body under control.
